Bella Blanca

Bella Blanca began as an assignment for a class and was developed in collaboration with Maggie Schulte. Inspired by a visit to the Gucci Garden Museum in Florence, Italy, Bella Blanca depicts a picturesque, dreamy picnic setting. As the story unfolds, the characters loaf around, overindulge and dance their inhibitions away.

When staging the video shoot, we wanted to create an ethereal, idyllic atmosphere. Through editing and music, we added an unsettling feeling to the scene.

INSPO PHOTOS

The Gucci Garden is perhaps the most fascinating place I’ve ever been. It is a museum in the most untraditional sense, with exhibits that chronicle the history of Gucci and its dominance in fashion. But with wax mannequins watching your every move as you walk through immersive spaces that turn you into a part of the attraction, you get the most unsettling feeling.

Below are some photos I drew inspiration from when planning this video project. I fixated on this ‘garden of love’- an otherwordly, ethereal, flora and fauna. Of course love would exist in a garden- is love not the most beautiful and wonderful thing to experience?

Maybe you the garden of love is much colder than you had realized. Perhaps, preservation is the most important part of beauty. And perhaps love- which seems as pleasant as a picnic in a garden- has a dark underbelly that will sweep your sense away.
